2056 retired players will get $26.25 million from NFLPA

After 2 years of contending, the lawsuit, involving the NFLPA and the 2056 retired players, finally came to a settlement.

As the representative of the 2056 retired players, Hall of Fame cornerback Herb Adderley filed the lawsuit in 2007, regarding the issue of the union cutting them out of lucrative marketing deals. The union failed to include retired NFL players in deals with Electronic Arts Inc. and other companies about video games, trading cards and others sports products.

Last November, a federal jury in San Francisco ruled that the union should pay the retired players $28.1 million, but the NFLPA appealed the ruling in February. After Smith was elected to executive director in March, the NFLPA dropped its appeal and reached a $26.25 million settlement with Adderley and other retired players.
