NFL suspended Browns WR Stallworth for whole season

After the Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth pleaded guilty of killing a pedestrian while driving drunk, he would not only face the 30-day imprisonment, but also the suspension for the whole 2009 NFL season.

The suspension will prevent Stallworth from participating in any team activities before his reinstatement, which will be after the Super Bowl. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell explained that he made the decision because Stallworth’s conduct endangered himself and others and placed stain on reputations of the league and NFL players.

Stallworth said in a statement on Thursday that he felt disappointed but would accept Goodell’s decision. He also urged fans not to NFL players based on his “tragic lapse in judgment”. The statement read:

“I will use the period of my suspension to reflect, fulfill my obligations, and use this experience to make a positive impact on the lives of those who look up to NFL players."

Hopefully other NFL players will learn a good lesson from Stallworth’s story.
