As the New York Jets rookie quarterback, Mark Sanchez will get his first career start against Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens in a preseason Monday Night Football game on Aug. 24.
However, that does not mean he has won the competition with Kellen Clemens for the Jets' starting job in regular season.
Coach Rex Ryan previously planned to use Clemens at the starter postiion in the preseason opener against St. Louis on Friday and another game against the Ravens. However, after Sanchez, the fifth overall draft pick, sparkled in his debut against St. Louis on Friday, Ryan just changed his mind and determined that Sanchez will start the game against Ravens.
Sanchez's performance in the opener was sparkling. He threw a 48-yard pass to David Clowney after he came into the 23-20 loss with 28 seconds left in the first quarter and completed three of four passes for 88 yards in one series that was capped by Thomas Jones’ 1-yard touchdown dive.
